Welcome Letter for International Freshmen Autumn 2026

Dear Students, welcome to Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). To ensure your smooth arrival and registration, please carefully read the following instructions and recommendations before departure.

1. Registration Notice

Please come and register on the dates specified in your Admission Notice. Please note that no registration and visa processing services are available if you arrive during the summer holiday.

2. Airport Pickup & Transportation Guide

University pickup service (Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport)

The university will offer free pickup service at Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital International Airport on the designated dates and during the designated time periods:

September 2nd, 2026: The pickup service will be available from 9 am to 5 pm, and university buses will depart at 9 am, 1 pm and 5 pm.

September 3rd , 2026: The pickup service will be available from 9 am to 1 pm, and university buses will depart at 9 am and 1 pm.

BFSU staff will wait at the Exit for International Arrival at Terminal 3, holding a university sign.

Recommended options for non-pickup hours at the Beijing Capital International Airport

Taxi: Make sure you get into a taxi at the taxi stand. Please get off at the West Gate of East Campus, BFSU, Xisanhuan Beilu No.2, Haidian District. It will cost you about 150 RMB to take a taxi to BFSU (40 km). Don’t forget to ask for a receipt (fa piao) to verify the bill.

Airport Express + Subway: Take “Airport Express” from Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 to Sanyuanqiao (exit and re-enter through the ticket gates), then walk about 400 meters to transfer to Subway Line 12 (direction of Sijiqingqiao), get off at Suzhouqiao (Exit C), and walk 650 meters to the West Gate of East Campus, BFSU.

Three options for arrivals at Daxing International Airport

Airport Shuttle Bus: Take Daxing Airport - Gongzhufen Line, get off at Gongzhufen, and take a taxi or change to No. 74 bus at Gongzhufen to Weigongqiao to get to BFSU.

Taxi: Make sure you get into a taxi at the taxi stand. Please get off at the West Gate of East Campus, BFSU, Xisanhuan Beilu No.2, Haidian District. It will cost you about 200 RMB to take a taxi to BFSU (60 km). Don’t forget to ask for a receipt (fa piao) to verify the bill.

Airport Express: Take Daxing Airport Express (Exit A) to Caoqiao, walk about 200 meters (exit and re-enter through the ticket gates) to transfer to Subway Line 19 (direction of Mudanyuan) to Beitaipingzhuang, then transfer to Subway Line 12 (direction of Sijiqingqiao), get off at Suzhouqiao (Exit C), and walk about 650 meters to the West Gate of East Campus, BFSU.

3. Check-in Information

Requirement: Students need to register in person.

Dates and times: September 2nd, September 3rd and September 4th, 2026 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Place: First Floor of School of Chinese Language and Literature, East Campus, BFSU, Xisanhuan Beilu No.2, Haidian District. Tel: 0086-10-88816549/0671

Materials Required: Admission Notice, JW201/JW202 Form, Passport, four two-inch ID photos (white background). Those who live off campus must also bring the Registration Form of Temporary Residence.

4. Mandatory Insurance

Mandatory

Prior to registration, all international students at BFSU must purchase Comprehensive Insurance designated by our university. The insurance includes Medical Insurance for Accidental Injury, and Hospitalization and Medical Insurance. International students without the insurance cannot register at BFSU. The insurance coverage must be effective from the date of your arrival in China.

Insurance standards:

Study duration exceeds 6 months: 800 RMB/year;

Study duration does not exceed 6 months: 400 RMB/half-year;

Students may choose voluntarily higher-level coverage plans according to personal needs.

5. Accommodation Arrangement

Online booking periods for apartments: August 10th , 9:am - August 14th , 9:am (UTC+8)

Special Note: On-campus accommodation is limited and cannot be guaranteed for all self-funded students (including exchange students who are responsible for their own accommodation fees). Students who are unable to secure on-campus accommodation are advised to look for off-campus housing arrangements in advance.

a. On-campus accommodation details:

1) Room type and accommodation fees: Please visit https://lb.bfsu.edu.cn/info/2912/5211.htm. Students are advised to review the available room types and fee information in advance.

2) Reservation notice and procedures: Please visit https://lb.bfsu.edu.cn/info/2602/5201.htm. Students are advised to confirm the reservation website and link their account information in advance, and complete the reservation process within the specified period.

3) Check-in period: After making a dormitory reservation successfully, you must complete the check-in procedures within the new semester registration period (September 2-4, 2026). Failure to complete the check-in procedures by the deadline will result in your reservation not being retained.

Upon check-in, students must complete the accommodation registration procedures at the reception desk of the international students’ dormitory buildings. Accommodation fees must be paid on time and in full. Long-term students are required to pay by semester.

Note: In case of special objective reasons for late check-in, you need to inform your school in writing form in advance and provide supporting documents.

b. Off-campus accommodation details:

1) Housing resources: Students may access rental housing platforms (such as https://www.ziroom.com; an English interface is available on the app) to learn about housing information and rental procedures, and schedule apartment viewings.

2) Reminder on early entry into China: Students who need to enter China in advance to arrange rental accommodation are advised not to arrive earlier than :August 26, in order to avoid being unable to complete university registration procedures before visas expire. Students entering China early can search for and book hotels near the university for temporary accommodation. As the registration period is a peak period for hotel bookings, students are advised to make arrangements well in advance.

3) Mandatory registration: Students who live off campus need to go and register at the local police station with their landlord to get the Registration Form of Temporary Residence within 24 hours after moving in. Students living off campus may complete registration and visa procedures only upon presentation of a valid Registration Form of Temporary Residence.

4) Rental price range: The monthly rent generally ranges from RMB 2,500 to RMB 6,000. Rental prices may vary depending on factors such as apartment type, location, and interior decoration. The area surrounding the university is well equipped with supporting facilities, and rental housing is relatively sufficient. Students may independently choose accommodation based on their individual needs and budget. Off-campus accommodation involves necessary procedures such as selecting accommodation, applying for a bank card, signing a lease agreement, and completing accommodation registration. Students are advised to consult rental agencies in advance and allow sufficient time for these procedures.

6. Payment Rules

Tuition fee payment

Degree students must pay the full amount of tuition fee by academic year in a lump sum; Non-degree students can choose to pay by semester but all the settlements must be in RMB.

Payment options: Please select one of the following options: transfer the payment to BFSU’s bank account prior to your coming (please keep the transaction receipt for verification), use cash or a bank card in China upon registration or a foreign MASTER or VISA card (please make sure to check and adjust credit limit in advance. If not, you cannot pay successfully). If you fail to pay the full amount within the designated time period, you will not be able to register at BFSU.

Refund policies:

For newly enrolled students:

if you drop out within one week, we will give you a full refund of the tuition fee;

if you drop out within two weeks, we will keep 20% of the semester's tuition fee and return the rest to you;

if you drop out within four weeks, we will keep 50% of the semester's tuition fee and return the rest to you;

if you drop out after four weeks (from the first day of registration), no tuition fee will be refunded;

and application fee will in no case be refunded.

Accommodation fee payment

Accommodation fee must be paid by semester in a lump sum. If you check out due to personal reasons in the middle of a semester, accommodation fee will not be refunded.

7. Visa & Residence Permit

Legal Requirement

X1 visa holders must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days of entry into China; otherwise, they will be subject to a fine of up to 10,000 RMB. They can even be ordered to exit China. X1 visa holders need a physical examination report for the Permit.

Fees (for reference only): For a residence permit for study purposes, the fee is 400 RMB per 6 months, or 800 RMB per 12 months. For physical examination, the cost varies from 0 to 400 RMB, depending on the actual charge of the National Immigration Administration of China or the Inspection and Quarantine Administration of China.

X2 short term/semester visa holders do not need a physical examination.

Documentation requirements:

We only accept the following as valid identification documents for international student registration: X1 student visa, X2 student visa, or study residence permit obtained with the admission materials of BFSU, as well as the Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card. For international students who enter China through visa-free access, with a tourist visa, or with other non-study visas, or who arrive at BFSU with a study visa, a study residence permit, or other residence permits obtained with admission materials issued by an institution other than BFSU, the registration procedures shall not be completed in principle until our university has verified the documents and confirmed that all requirements are met. In such circumstances, please contact the visa affairs staff of the Overseas Students Affairs Office immediately. The final handling method shall be subject to the requirements of the National Immigration Administration of China.
