Beijing Foreign Studies University has been enrolling international students since 1950, ranking among China’s earliest institutions dedicated to international student education. With over 70 years of development, the university now boasts 23 schools and research institutes participating in international student training. Its disciplines cover literature, law, economics, education, management and other fields. The academic structure has evolved from traditional Chinese language teaching into a new pattern featuring coordinated development of linguistic and non-linguistic disciplines as well as diversified majors.
BFSU has established a complete academic education system covering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs. A wide range of flagship majors are open to international students, including Chinese Language and Literature, International Business, International Relations, Law, Area Studies, Translation and Communication Studies, featuring standardized schooling duration and diverse research directions. In addition, full English-taught programs are available at all undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
Our non-degree education programs include inter-university exchange, visiting studies, foundation programs and summer schools. The inter-university exchange program offers short-term academic visits and credit recognition for students from partner universities. Visiting programs provide long-term and short-term language and cultural training for students with varied Chinese proficiency levels. Foundation programs offer language and pre-major preparatory courses for international students who intend to pursue formal degree studies. Summer schools offer intensive language courses, area studies, as well as courses on China’s national conditions and culture.
