Registration Guide for International Students in the Spring Semester of 2026 at Beijing Foreign Studies University

I. Registration Time

8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., February 25th to February 27th, 2026.

II. Registration Site

Student Service Center, F/1, East Campus, Beijing Foreign Studies University

III. Materials Required

1. New students: original or a copy of the Admission Notice, JW202 or DQ Form Copy/ JW201 Form, Passport, and four 2-inch ID photos (white background with name and student ID on the back). Those who live off-campus, please bring your Registration Form of Temporary Residence.

2. Enrolled students: student ID card and passport. Those who live off-campus please bring your Registration Form of Temporary Residence.

IV. Insurance

1. Upon enrollment, all international students studying at BFSU should purchase Comprehensive Insurance for Foreigners Staying in China designated by the university. The insurance undertakes the following insurance liabilities, including death insurance, accidental disability insurance, in-patient medical insurance, accidental medical care, outpatient and emergency medical care, etc. The minimum required plan is the 800 RMB/year option (Premium: 800 RMB/year; 400 RMB/half-year). Students may voluntarily upgrade to higher-tier plans. For details, see the Brief List of Multi-Solution Products for International Students.

2. This insurance is a mandatory requirement for registration. International students without insurance cannot register at BFSU.

V. Accommodations

1. Part of the rooms of the international student dormitory at BFSU will be available for online reservation by international students. (Students who have not checked out during the vacation and those with pre-allocated accommodations do not need to reserve online.) Students who successfully secure accommodation must complete the check-in procedures during the designated registration period (February 25-27, 2026). Failure to finalize these procedures within the specified timeframe will result in the cancellation of the reserved accommodation. If there are valid reasons preventing you from checking in on time, please inform your academic department of enrollment in advance and provide relevant documentation. In principle, early arrivals will not be received, please also contact your academic department of enrollment in case of special circumstances (See attachment: Contact information of the Institutes and Schools).

2. When checking in at the international student dormitory, students should log in to the “Online Residence Registration System for Overseas Visitors in Beijing” with a personal mobile number purchased within China and complete their registration within 24 hours according to the relevant regulations. The front desk staff at the international student dormitory will provide instructions on residence registration (Students can get a Chinese SIM card on site, it is recommended to get one before checking in).

3. Students who live off-campus should apply for a Temporary Accommodation Certificate at the local police station within 24 hours of their stay according to the relevant regulations. They should also present the above certificate upon registration.

VI. Tuition and accommodation fees

1. Tuition fees can be paid by semester or academic year in a lump sum. (Degree students must pay by academic year and non-degree students can choose to pay by semester or by year.) All fees will be charged according to the RMB price. The accommodation fee can only be paid by semester in a lump sum. In principle, students who check out halfway for personal reasons will not get a refund.

2. International students can choose from the following methods to pay for their tuition and accommodation fees.

  • Online Payment: Mobile payment (WeChat, Alipay, and ICBC e-Bill Payment) and international card payment are available. Students who choose to pay online should fulfill the payment prior to your coming and check it on site upon registration. (See attachment: Instructions for Online Payment in BFSU International Student Service System.)

  • Onsite Payment: Cash, WeChat, Alipay, and bank cards are applicable. If you choose to pay with a foreign bank card (MASTERCARD or VISA), please make sure your credit limit in advance.

  • Bank Transfer: Students who choose to make a bank transfer need to complete the procedure in advance, keep the paper transaction receipt, and present it upon registration.

Note: Online payment is the most recommended. Students with dormitories on campus without checking out for the vacation can pay for their tuition and accommodation fees online in advance. Students without dormitories on campus can pay for their tuition fees online ahead of time and cover the accommodation fee upon registration.

VII. Visa

1. International students should bring their private ordinary passports and apply for an X1 or X2 visa. Students who have attained permanent residence in China can register and study at our university with their documents.

2. Students who entered China with an X1 visa please add Ms. Zhang as a friend in WeChat (WeChat ID: SLvisa). The QR code is as follows. Ms. Zhang will help the students with appointments for the physical examination and visa application. (Students with an X1 visa must prepare two 2-inch ID photos with a white background.)

VIII. Registration Process

Kindly ReminderFor certain process that do not support international card payments, such as insurance, visa fees, and SIM cards, students who don't have a Chinese bank card are advised to prepare some cash, it is recommended to have around RMB 2000.
