author: [time]:2024-02-29 [source]: [Times of browsing]:

To meet the growing international demand for Chinese language teachers, facilitate Chinese language education around the world, and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) has established the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as the Scholarship) for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China. Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, selected HSK test centers, foreign educational institutions, Chinese language teacher training programs/Chinese departments at foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language teaching, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (hereinafter collectively referred to as Recommending Institutions) may recommend outstanding students and in-service Chinese language teachers to further their studies in international Chinese language education and related programs at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as Host Institutions).

As one of the host institutions, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) welcomes students and Chinese language teachers around the world to apply for the scholarship to study at our university.

BFSU is one of China’s top universities under the direct administration of the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE). It is listed under Project 985, Project 211 and the Double First-Class Project of China. Located in Haidian District, Beijing, BFSU has two campuses which are separated by North Xisanhuan Road – the West Campus and the East Campus. BFSU is one of China’s oldest language universities. It has the longest history among universities of its kind in China, offering a complete range of degrees, diplomas and programs at various levels, with the largest number of foreign language programs in the country. BFSU was the first in China to recruit and teach international students, and was also one of the earliest to provide undergraduate and postgraduate programs teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages.

Beijing Foreign Studies University offers 121 undergraduate programs and teaches 101 foreign languages. In the fourth round of national discipline assessment, the university’s foreign language and literature discipline was rated as A+, ranking first in China. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, BFSU’s linguistics program ranked 45th, English language and literature ranked 101-150, and modern linguistics ranked 151-200, ranking first among domestic institutions of the same kind.

In its 83 years of educational history, guided by its motto “Learn with an open mind; Serve a great cause”, BFSU has trained a significant number of professionals with strong language competence who went on to work in and outside China as diplomats, translators/interpreters, educators, entrepreneurs, journalists, lawyers, and bankers, among other occupations. In the BFSU alumni community, over 400 have worked as ambassadors, and over 2,000 as counselors. BFSU is thus known as “a cradle for diplomats”.
