Entry & Enrollment

Q1. Can international students overseas come to Chinese Mainland in Fall 2022 with the student visa (X1/X2)?

A: That depends on the decision of the Chinese embassies/consulates overseas. Students need to consult the Chinese embassy/consulate where he/she plans to apply for the student visa.

Q2. What are the latest quarantine requirements in Chinese Mainland?

A: Please refer to the latest news at http://english.www.gov.cn/news

Q3. If I am unable to come to Chinese Mainland in late August, can I register online?

A: Students who are unable to come to Chinese Mainland in late August or who are in the quarantine period by then can register online and take online courses, and when they can come, they can transfer to offline courses.

Q4. Due to personal reasons, can I choose to take online courses in Fall 2022?

A: Please consult the BFSU school/department you will be enrolled in.

Q5. How to register online in late August?

A: Please refer to “BFSU 2022 Autumn Semester Guidelines for Enrollment and Registration” athttps://osao.bfsu.edu.cn/info/1054/1876.htm. You are expected to do online registration from August 14 to August 28, 2022.

Q6. I am currently in Chinese Mainland, how can I register in late August?

A:Students who are currently in Chinese Mainland low-risk regions, meet Beijing’s epidemic prevention and control policies and requirements for entering Beijing, are expected to enroll on campus. Please contact the teacher in charge in your enrolled school for approval. First register at BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office, and then complete the enrollment at the school/department.

When enrolling at the university, international students should use the same identity (including name and nationality, etc.) as the one that was used during the application period. They should carry the passport and valid visa with the above-mentioned identity to enroll on-site.

Deferring Enrollment

Q7. If I want to defer enrollment to Fall 2023, what procedures do I need to complete?

A: Please contact the BFSU school/department you will be enrolled in and submit your application to the school/department.

On-Campus Accommodation Application

Q8. Do I need to apply on-campus accommodation?

A: You do not need to apply on-campus accommodation. Dormitory (bed) will be arranged by the University. Please refer to BFSU Overseas Students Affairs website for details: https://lb.bfsu.edu.cn/info/1049/1266.htm.

Tuition Payment

Q9. How can I pay the tuition fee?

A: Please pay tuition by bank transfer before 26 August 2022.

Please indicate “Tuition” and your student ID or passport name in the note when making the transfer.

Q10. Can I pay the tuition fee by semesters?

A: Degree students may pay their tuition fees either in one instalment per academic year or in two instalments per semester during the academic year 2022-2023. Unless otherwise specified separately, the fee rate for the semester is normally 50% of the tuition fee for the academic year. Please keep the receipts of bank transfer for later upload in the online registration system.

Q11. If I study online, is there a reduction in tuition fees?

A: The online tuition fee standard is the same with offline courses.

Visa

Q12. I am a new international student now in the Chinese Mainland and my visa will expire soon. Can BFSU help me extend my visa in advance?

A: The university is unable to assist students who have not yet enrolled at the university to apply for a visa extension in advance. Students can consult their local Exit and Entry Administration bureau to apply for other types of visa or humanitarian stay visas. As visas are managed by local jurisdictions, for details, please consult the local Exit and Entry Administration bureau.

The one-month humanitarian stay visa counts valid days starting from the date of application, therefore, it is not advised to apply for that visa too early.

Q13. I am holding a residence permit issued in other cities (not Beijing), what do I need to pay attention to?

A: Students with non-study Residence Permit or Residence Permit issued by other Chinese cities must apply for the new Residence Permit within 10 days upon registration. Concerning the documents to be prepared, please refer to BFSU Overseas Students Affairs website: https://osao.bfsu.edu.cn/info/1048/1877.htm.

Q14: Can I enter border and come to the university on a NON-study visa and apply for a study residence permit?

A: According to the relevant regulations, international students need to enter border with a student visa (X) and then apply for extension.

Medical Insurance

Q15. Am I required to purchase the comprehensive medical insurance for studying in China?

A: The Chinese Ministry of Education requires that all international students be medically insured throughout their study in China. Beijing Foreign Studies University international students MUST purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan for Foreign Students. Students without a valid medical insurance are not allowed to register. For more information about the insurance plans, please visit http://www.lxbx.net.

International students who are currently overseas and enroll online do not need to purchase the comprehensive medical insurance at this stage. As the insurance covers COVID-19 medical treatment, therefore, please purchase the Comprehensive Insurance & Protection Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China (including medical insurance for personal accidental injury and medical insurance for inpatient treatment) at least one day before your entry to China. The premium is 400 RMB for half year and 800 RMB for one year.

Q16. The scholarship I have covers medical insurance, do I still need to buy the medical insurance?

A: Different scholarships have different regulations, students need to refer to the related regulations. Full Chinese Government Scholarship holders need to buy the medical insurance first and then get the reimbursement in accordance with the scholarship coverage.
