The School of Chinese Language and Literature (SCLL) of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) provides training programs that last from one semester to one year for outstanding international students interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in BFSU. SCLL aims to cultivate international talents relying on the superior educational resources of the university. The Foundation Program will be rolled out in 2022 for a new pattern of comprehensive education with science-based methods. SCLL strives to provide professional language training, international cultural exchanges, world-class transition support and other platforms to prepare students for their study in BFSU. At the end of the Foundation Program, the students who pass the examination and meet the requirements can be directly admitted to the BFSU SCLL Department of Chinese as a Foreign Language for undergraduate studies. Those who meet the application requirements of other schools of BFSU could also be recommended to apply for their undergraduate programs.
I. Talent Cultivation Objectives
BFSU SCLL Foundation Program aims to recruit international students who apply for BFSU undergraduate programs taught in Chinese but do not meet the language proficiency requirements.
The Foundation program shall provide comprehensive training on Chinese language proficiency, Chinese culture and other basic courses. It shall improve students' Chinese language and learning ability and broaden their horizons to meet their enrollment requirements into an undergraduate major.
II. Cultivation Requirements
1. Qualified language competence in listening, reading, speaking, and writing to adapt to teaching environment in Chinese
2. To master some basic knowledge in certain majors
3. To adapt to the teaching and learning methods of the university
4. To have the capability of independent thinking and self-directed learning
III. Target Students, Study Period and Graduation
1. Target Students
International students whose Chinese language proficiency does not meet the requirements for applying to undergraduate courses taught in Chinese
2. Study Period
One semester (for non-beginner); one year (for beginners)
3. Graduation
A graduation certificate of Chinese training by SCLL shall be granted to those who have qualified scores in the required courses and obtain corresponding credits.
4. Qualification for direct access to SCLL undergraduate program
Students who have accomplished all teaching procedures required in cultivation plans with qualified scoresand pass theadmission qualification examination for undergraduate majors will have direct access to SCLL undergraduate programs. Students who fail to meet the graduation standard or fail the admission qualification examination for undergraduate majors need to continue with their language program until they are qualified.
5. Qualification to be enrolled into other BFSU schools
Students who have accomplished all teaching procedures required in cultivation plans with qualified scores and meet the application requirements of other schools shall be recommended to apply for other schools of BFSU. IV. Application requirements
1. Non-Chinese nationality, meet the qualification requirements of 2022 Admission Guide for International Students of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
2. Full-time high school diploma or equivalent level.
V. Cultivation Plan
◆ Compulsory Courses
A Chinese placement test will be held in the Foundation Program. Students will be divided into small classes according to their Chinese competence. Each class will have listening, speaking, reading and writing course to develop students' skills comprehensively. Compulsory courses include lectures on Chinese culture, covering different fields such as Chinese culture, economic development, history and geography to help students understand China in all aspects.
◆ Elective courses
Students can choose courses on language skills, cultural knowledge, and specialized skills according to their interests and plans to lay a solid foundation for undergraduate study.
Individualized cultivation plans will be provided to students in the Foundation Program based on their classes, individual cases, and targeted undergraduate majors.

14)Application fee RMB 800 (Please submit your application and pay directly in the online application system. Applications without paying the application fee will not be processed. Application fees are not refundable whether the applicant is admitted or not.)
15)Supplementary materials: including but not limited to SAT/IB/A-Level/ACT transcripts, College Entrance Examination transcript from the applicant's country, certificates of awards, HSK transcripts, other proof of Chinese language proficiency and document considered helpful to the application (copies shall be accepted).
* BFSU reserves the right to request students to further provide additional supplementary materials or conduct assessments or interviews.
VII. Fees
Tuition: RMB 12000/semester; RMB 24000/year. (not including HSK fee)
VIII. Admission Notice
Admission results will be notified by email, and admissions materials will be sent to applicants before January 15, 2022.
IX. Scholarships
After foundation studies, students will have the opportunity to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship or Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students during their undergraduate years.
