Provisions on Off-campus Internship Registration for International Students of BFSU

Article 1: To regulate and guide the off-campus internship activities for international students of Beijing Foreign Studies University (hereinafter referred to as BFSU), and ensure the internship registration is carried out orderly in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, these Provisions are formulated based on laws and regulations such as the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on the Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners as well as the practical conditions of BFSU.

Article 2: The term “off-campus internship for international students” refers to the off-campus internship activities organized for international students in accordance with BFSU’s educational and teaching programs, without any remuneration (except for transport subsidies and meal allowances).

Article 3: The term “registration” refers to the application by international students holding student residence permits to the entry and exit administration authorities for registering information such as the location and duration of their internships on their residence permits.

Article 4: The off-campus internship registration work is administered by the Overseas Students Affairs Office of BFSU.

Article 5: To undertake off-campus internship, international students shall get approval from BFSU and apply to the entry and exit administration authorities for registering their internship location and duration on their residence permits. No off-campus internship is allowed without such registration.

Article 6: Application requirements for off-campus internship registration.

(1) Abiding by Chinese laws and regulations as well as the rules and regulations of BFSU, and maintaining good conduct during their academic study in BFSU;

(2) Enrolled as a full-time international student at BFSU for degrees (bachelor, master or doctor) ;

(3) Covered by effective insurance plans that can provide compensation for accidents that may occur during the internship;

(4) The internship is carried out in accordance with the applicant’s study plan and relevant to the applicant’s field of study;

(5) Undergraduate students shall pass all required academic courses, with scores ranking the top 50% of all international students in the same grade (passing courses through retaking is allowed); graduate students shall pass all courses they have taken;

(6) Obtaining permits from their employers, the schools they study at, andthe Overseas Students Affairs Office;

(7) Holding a student residence permit that has been reviewed and processed by the Overseas Students Affairs Office, with internship registration information.

Article 7: Documents required for off-campus internship registration.

(1) A recent bare-headed photo of the student sized 2x2 inches with a plain white background;

(2) A certificate of registration for temporary stay;

(3) An application form for off-campus internship registration for international students (stamped with the official seal of the school);

(4) A letter of internship permit (stamped with the official seal of the employer);

(5) A letter of permit for off-campus internship for international students (stamped with the official seal of the Overseas Students Affairs Office);

(6) A visa/stay permit/residence permit application form of the People’s Republic of Chinafor foreigners (stamped with the official seals of the Overseas Students Affairs Office and the employer).

Article 8: Off-campus internship registration procedures

(1) An international student shall fill out theApplication Form for Off-campus Internship Registration for International Students.Information on the form shall be typed and printed. The form shall be hand-signed by the applicant personally;

(2) The employer shall fill out the Letter of Internship Permitwith their official seal stamped, and the Company Information Form;

(3) The head of the school where the international student studies shall review whether the internship fits their teaching plans and is related to the study. After approval,he/she shall write down such approval on behalf of the school, and sign on the form with the official seal of the school stamped. The school shall keep relevant records such as the student’s study and internship plans;

(4) The student shall submit the original copies of the documents mentioned above to the Overseas Students Affairs Office. After review, the Office shall provide the Letter of Permit for Off-campus Internship for International Students and the Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form of the People’s Republic of China, and help the student to complete internship registration.

Article 9: Tips on off-campus internship registration

(1) For those who apply for both internship registration and student residence permit at the same time, they shall also submit necessary documents for residence permit application in addition to the above-mentioned documents;

(2) An international student cannot engage in off-campus internship activities with two or more employers at the same time;

(3) An international student who wishes to change his/her employer or duration of internship shall repeat necessary registration procedures. If the student terminates or suspends his/her study during the internship, the student shall terminate the internship and cancel his/her student residence permit;

(4) Should the following circumstances occur during a student’s off-campus internship, the school has the right to cancel his/her internship eligibility and handle the issue in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and rules:

a. Failure to meet BFSU’s attendance requirements;

b. Significant decline in academic performance/grades;

c. Violation of Chinese laws and regulations or the rules and disciplines of BFSU;

d. Other circumstances that make the internship unlikely to continue.

Article 10: Any matters not covered in these Provisions shall be dealt with in accordance with relevant policies of China and BFSU. In case of any changes in the Chinese laws and regulations or departmental rules of higher authorities, such changes shall prevail. The English version is only for reference and the Chinese version shall prevail regarding final interpretation and implementation of these Provisions.

Article 11: These Provisions shall enter into force on the date of publication and be interpreted by the Overseas Students Affairs Office.
