Guide for Scholarship Students(2019 Spring Semester)

Dear scholarship students, welcome to Beijing Foreign Studies University. Below is some important information about your study at BFSU. Please read it carefully.

1. Arrival:

a. Pick-up at the airport

From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on February 20th and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on February 21st, BFSU staff will wait at the Exit for International Arrival at Terminal 3 to assist you with transportation to campus. On September 5th the school bus will leave the airport at 10:30 am, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. On September 6th the school bus will leave the airport at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

(The BFSU staff will hold a sign and wait at the Exit for International Arrival at Terminal 3.)

b. Two other ways to come:

If you do not arrive on February 20th or February 1st, there are two ways to come to BFSU.

1) You can take the airport shuttle bus to Gong Zhu Fen (Line 4) and get off at Suzhou Qiao. BFSU is 300 meters south of this stop. If you’re not confident in your oral Chinese or you have too much luggage, this may not be a good choice.

2) Right out of the airport there is a Taxi Stand. Make sure that you get into a taxi at the taxi stand. Please get off at Beijing Foreign Studies University (Xisanhuan Beilu No.2, Haidianqu). It will cost you about 150 RMB to take a taxi to BFSU (40 km) Don’t forget to ask for the receipt (fa piao) to verify the bill.

2. Registration

Please note that all international students should register in Overseas Students Affairs Office during the registration period specified in the Admission Notice. If you cannot register on time due to personal reasons, you should write the office a letter of explanation to ask for postponement of registration. If the letter is approved, students can only postpone their registration for up to 15 days. Admission qualification will be automatically cancelled if students do not register in due time without permission from the office.

a. Dates and times:

February 20th and 21st, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

b. Place:

Student Service Centre, First Floor of Student Centre Building, East Campus. (See map) Tel: 88816549

c. Materials Required:

Admission Notice, JW201/202 Form, Passport (original copies of the above), Signed Letter of Commitment, four two-inch photos (white background). If you have completed the physical examination in your home country, please bring all the physical examination records and other relevant materials (original copies only) with you. Those who live off campus please bring Registration Form of Temporary Residence.

3. Accommodations

a. Live on-campus

BFSU tries to help in arranging on-campus dormitory (bed). For new students, BFSU does not accept dormitory reservation for the first semester and will arrange rooms for students. For the second semester, students can choose room types (single room or double room).

There is a room deposit fee of 400 RMB upon checking in. You will get the refund while checking out.

b. Stay off-campus

If you live off campus, you have to find the accommodation in advance. You need to go and register at the local police station with your landlord to get the Registration Form of Temporary Residence within 24 hours after you move in. Students living off campus must provide legal residence certificates. Otherwise, you are not allowed to register at BFSU and the public security authorities will not conduct any visa procedure.

Accommodation subsidy will be delivered directly to scholarship students if they choose to stay off-campus according to the Scholarship Students Management Policy.

4. Visa

a. X visas & Residence permit

International students must apply for an X1 or X2 student visa before coming to China (for details please consult Chinese Embassy in your country). According to Chinese laws, students holding an X1 visa must apply for a Student Residence Permit within 30 days of entry into China. Otherwise, they will be considered as illegal residents and be liable to a fine of a maximum amount of 10000 RMB. They can even be expelled out of China.

b. About physical examination

Students holding an X1 visa must go to the China Health Quarantine Department below to receive a physical examination. If you have completed the physical examination in your home country, you must still go there to have your physical examination records (original copies only) verified.

Notice:

(1) No breakfast before physical examination.

(2) Please bring passport, two two-inch color photos, and the original and a copy of JW202 form and Admission Notice.

Remember: Immediately after having got your physical examination report, you must come to BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office to apply for the Student Residence Permit.

c. Price (only for reference)

For Student Residence Permit, 400 RMB per 6 months, 800 RMB per 12 months. For physical examination, it varies from 0 to 400 RMB according to the healthcare center.

d. Others

Students holding an X2 visa do not need physical examination.

If you are unable to apply for an X1 or X2 visa under exceptional circumstances, please contact BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office by email: visa@bfsu.edu.cn before entering China. If you have entered China, please bring your passport to BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office for consultation.

5. Insurance

Chinese government scholarship (CSC) students and Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS) students (excluding four-week general visiting students) can go and get their insurance cards at the registration desk. Scholarship students need not purchase insurance.

If the Insured scholarship students receive outpatient or emergency medical treatment because of illness and actually incur reasonable and necessary expenses, within the insurance duration, only the medical expenses and cost exceeding 650 Yuan (starting line) will be reimbursed at a percentage of 85%, and the accumulative payment shall not exceed the limit of 20000 Yuan. Scholarship students can call the 24-hour telephone service number 4008105119-1 for any inquiry including disease counselling, medical advice, insurance claims and so on.

6. Scholarship Delivery

a. Apply for a China Construction Bank (CCB) card

For full scholarship students (CIS and CSC), please go to the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) Branch of China Construction Bank with your passport to apply for a bank card, and deposit 10 Yuan or equivalence in foreign currency. The bank will print the deposit receipt for you. Please present your bank card and the deposit receipt to the teacher at the Overseas Students Affairs Office, and the teacher would make a copy of them. The BFSU Branch of China Construction Bank is located next to the West Campus Gate of BFSU.

b. Delivery Time

The living allowance or stipend will be put into your bank account around the 15th of each month. Please check it in time. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher at the Overseas Students Affairs Office as soon as possible. If you lose your bank card, please go through loss report procedure immediately at the bank mentioned above. After you get the new card, please present the new card to the teacher at the Overseas Students Affairs Office for a new copy.

7. Attendance Checking System

All the international students who need a leave permission due to illness or any personal affairs should go through the procedure at the Overseas Students Affairs Office, including scholarship students.

Scholarship students should observe class rules and attend classes on time. All need to do their attendance checking on the fingerprint machine by 10th each month at the Overseas Students Affairs Office. Otherwise, living stipend for that month would not be delivered on time. Yet, a written application submitted the following month can help reclaim the missing amount.

Scholarship students need not come to do the fingerprint attendance checking each January, February, July and August.

Students registering before the 15th of the month (the 15th included) will receive full stipend of that month. Those who register after the 15th of the month will receive half stipend of that month. If registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days (school holidays excluded), his stipend will be stopped during his leaving.

8. Yearly Evaltion

Students who study at BFSU more than one year need to pass the annual evaluation to acquire the scholarship funding for the next year.

Note:Each March or September, living stipend may be put off till a later date due to the collection of all the new registered scholarship students’ bank cards. So, it is suggested that you prepare a month’s living allowance by yourself in advance.
