Introduction of Graduate School of Education
The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was first established in 2015. It is a comprehensive academic institution dedicated to the development of education as a discipline, talent cultivation, academic research, and international exchange. Leveraging BFSU’s strengths in languages, area studies, and regional and country-specific research, the school examines education from a global perspective, studying educational models, experiences, laws, and policies from various countries and regions around the world. This work provides valuable insights and references for global educational development and talent cultivation.
The work of the Graduate School of Education revolves around four main goals: First, to conduct in-depth research on cutting-edge issues in education, particularly in the fields of comparative education, higher education, and educational law and policy, and to publish high-level academic works and research reports. Second, to integrate the university’s strengths in education, linguistics, and area studies to establish interdisciplinary research teams and enhance the overall research capabilities of the university in the field of education. Third, to cultivate high-level talent in education by offering master’s and doctoral programs that train educational researchers and practitioners with international perspectives and cross-cultural competencies. Fourth, to engage with society through open educational initiatives, providing educational policy consultation and services to governments, educational institutions, and enterprises.
Currently, the Graduate School of Education offers doctoral and master’s degree programs in first-tier disciplines of education, covering five sub-disciplines: comparative education, higher education, curriculum and teaching theory, vocational and technical education, and educational technology. The school also manages academic publications such as the BFSU Educational Review, contributing to the advancement of academic exchange and development in the field of education.
Program Characteristics
1. The GSE is jointly composed of international experts and Chinese scholars with extensive international teaching experience. Integrating global perspectives and Chinese insights, they engage in in-depth and practical discussions on contemporary educational issues.
2. Leveraging the superior language resources of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the school emphasizes cross-cultural education and multicultural interaction. It is committed to fostering students' innovative thinking and significantly enhancing their intercultural communication skills and overall competitiveness in a global context.
3. The school continues to expand its domestic and international collaboration network. It has established in-depth collaborative relationships with renowned schools of education worldwide, such as Columbia University, Vanderbilt University, and Northwestern University, providing students with diverse platforms for international exchange, research practice, and high-level academic activities.
Academic Programs
The English-taught and Chinese-taught programs at our school are built on core disciplinary foundations including Comparative Education, Higher Education, Curriculum and Teaching Theory, and Educational Technology. These programs organically integrate cutting-edge theoretical and practical perspectives from international education, global education governance, and area studies. The curriculum specially includes a module on Chinese National Conditions Education, designed to help international students deeply understand China’s educational ecosystem, cultural context, and social structure. The aim is to cultivate globally competent talents with diverse perspectives and cross-cultural capabilities.

12. Two Letters of Recommendation (including evaluation of academic ability, written by individuals holding associate professor rank or above, or equivalent positions)
13. Visa page (for applicants currently studying at Chinese universities)
