School of Japanese and International Studies,Beijing Centre for Japanese Studies--Introduction to Programs for International Students

The Department of Japanese was founded in 1956, as a department at China Foreign Affairs University, and then incorporated into the School of Asian and African Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University. In 1981, it was established by the School of Asian and African Studies. It was authorized to provide a Master’s Program by the Ministry of Education in 1986 and a Ph.D. Program in 1993. In 2007, it was honored as the key discipline of Japanese Language and Literature in Beijing as well as the key national discipline by the Ministry of Education. Experiencing six decades of development, it has been elevated into the School of Japanese and International Studies, Beijing Centre for Japanese Studies,and now has become the backbone of Beijing Foreign Studies University.

ProgramRequirements

A:Master’sProgramJapanese-Chinese Interpreting(MTI)

1. 2-year academic system;

2. Undergraduate qualification with bachelor’s degree;

3. Chinese proficiency: HSK 6 (valid certificate, over 180);

4. Pass the written test (in Chinese) and interview (in Japanese) by the School of Japanese and International Studies.

B:Master’sProgram—Japanese Language and Literature

1.3-year academic system;

2.Undergraduate qualification with bachelor’s degree;

3. Chinese proficiency: HSK 6 (valid certificate, over 180);

4. Pass the written test (in Chinese) and interview (in Japanese) by theSchool of Japanese and International Studies.

C. Doctor’s Program—Japanese Language and Literature

1. 4-year academic system;

2. Master qualification with master’s degree;

3. Chinese proficiency: HSK 6 (valid certificate, over 210);

4. Pass the written test (in Chinese) and interview (in Japanese) by the School of Japanese and International Studies.

9.Diploma or Degreecertificate/Pre-graduation certificate(validated copiesif thedocuments are written in neither Chinese nor English, a Chinese or English translation should be submitted at the same time.)

10.Study Plan(1500 words or over for master/3000 words or over for doctor, in Chinese or Japanese)

11.Letters of recommendation from two former associate professors/professors or with similar qualifications

12.Resume(in Chinese)

13.Visa page (for applicants currently studying at a university in China)

14.Study certificate(for applicants currently studying at a university in China, please upload to the file entitled “other attachment”.)

15.School transfer certificate or School withdrawal certificate (for applicants currently studying for degrees at a university in China, please upload to the file entitled “other attachment”.)

16.Recommendation letter and academic transcript from your current university (for applicants currently studying at a university in China, please upload to the file entitled “other attachment”.)
