Introduction of School of European Languages and Cultures

School of European Languages and Cultures (SELC) of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is a distinctive teaching and research. In keeping with the international vision of BFSU, SELC has launched diverse programs for international students. It offers the largest number of less commonly taught European languages in China, including programs at all levels (BA/MA/PhD) Currently, SELC has 25 language majors, 18 of which are the only bachelor programs in China. SELC attaches equal importance to teaching and academic research. This is a fine tradition established through many years of educational practice. The school concentrates on research of European languages and cultures and edits academic journals and publications such as East Europe, Chinese Journal of European Languages and Cultures, and Teaching and Learning of European Languages.

Our program is designed to provide international students with rich and diversified teaching experience, focusing on improving students’ language ability, comprehensive practical ability and scientific research ability, and cultivating pioneering spirit, innovation consciousness and international vision. Upon completion of the research and study, students can engage in teaching, scientific research, foreign affairs, management and other related work in universities, research institutions and international organizations. Keep abreast of the latest research and development at home and abroad by learning systematic professional knowledge and cultural background knowledge; With a deep understanding of the development of relations between China and the countries in the target countries, the graduates of our school can independently conduct scientific research on the regions and countries in the target countries and participate in the research on the development of relations between China and the countries in the target countries.

Program Characteristics

1. An internationalized curriculum coupled with Chinese studies (Chinese language, culture and social studies)

2. An international faculty and internationally experienced Chinese professors who offer both the international and Chinese perspectives on contemporary business issues

3. Immersion Week: visits to the respective organizations in China every semester

4. Diversity in student composition: students from different countries are empowered to develop cross-cultural communication skills in everyday life

5. Full integration with Chinese students, providing an opportunity to network with the top Chinese students

Requirements

1. With bachelor’s degree or above

2. Regarding to “Albanian Language and Literature” and“Balkan Studies”,HSK Level 4 is required, for those who have received a degree from a Chinese university using Chinese as the language of instruction are not required to provide a HSK certificate.

3. For other majors, HSK Level 6, scores over 180 are required.

10. Detailed Research Plan (1500 words or over in Chinese)

11. Visa page (for applicants currently studying in a university in China)

13. School transfer certificate or School withdrawal certificate (for applicants currently studying for degrees in a university in China Please upload to the file entitled “other attachment”.)

Others

Please note: "Polish-Chinese Translation and Intercultural Studies", "Contemporary Romanian Literary Studies" and "Albanian Language and Literature" will not be enrolled in 2024.
