Guidelines for the Master’s Program in China Studies of “ICA Scholars Program”
Theinstitute for International Communication of Chinese Culture aims to study the global significance of Chinese culture, promote mutual learning of civilizations and the international dissemination of Chinese culture as its mission, explore the changes in Sino-Foreign cultural exchanges through the ages, explain the significant contribution of Chinese culture to the progress of human civilization, and reveal the global feelings and cultural value of today's China, which stands at the center of the world stage. The Institute makes full use of Beijing Foreign Studies University's international, cultural and academic resources, and takes academic journals such as International Sinology and Journalof Sinologyas platforms to build an international matrix of periodicals for Chinese cultural studies, propel Chinese scholars onto the world academic stage, demonstrate Chinese wisdom, interpret China's path, and jointly build a new academic discourse system.
The Institute and the International Confucian Association (ICA) has jointly established the "World Sinologist Training Base" and built an international talent training system with the sinologists as the main body, utilizing training methods such as thetrainingcoursesand postgraduates programs onSinology andInternational Sinology (ChinaStudies).The Master's Program in Chinese Studies is an "International Scholars Program"initiated by the ICA, organized and implemented by theResearchInstitute of Chinese Culture International Communication at BFSUto recruit and train overseas scholars who love and desire to understand Chinese culture.For the duration of the study period, international students admitted into the program will participate in intensive studies and field trips on topics related to Chinese culture, thinking and traditions, as well as the development of contemporary China.International students admitted to the program who display outstanding excellence will have the opportunity to receive scholarships to study in China.
ProgramFeatures
1. Efforts will be made to strengthen international students’deep understanding of Chinese culture andsociety,enrichtheirprofessionalknowledgeand curricula contents,cultivate them with a deeper degree of Chinese culture,through which the professors willtell Chinese stories and spread Chinese voices in a more realistic and vivid way.
2. In terms ofcurricula, special topics and key pointsare the most important ones. In combination with thespecialcourses andsubjectadvantages ofBFSU, a series of courses related toancientChina andcontemporaryChina for young sinologistswill be developed,aiming atcultivating students’ sense of identity with contemporary China.
3.Cultural practice, field investigation and other formswill be takentomakestudents tofeelChinese culture, to get close to the pulse of the times, to understand the history of China,thecontemporary China and the current politics of China.
4. The in-depth communication and integration between international students and Chinese studentswill be developed, and a brand of campus cultural activities for international studentswill be established.

Materials Required for Application
1.Application Form for Foreign Students of Beijing Foreign Studies University(automatically generated online).
2. Front Page of the Passport:The applicant shallbe submitted witha clear scanned copy of the first page oftheordinary passport in personand at the same timewith a validity period later than1stMarch, 2024. If the validity period of the current passport does not meet the requirements, please issue a new passport in time. Applicants who cannot obtain a passport before submitting their application due to objective reasons may submit valid certificates or supporting documents containing their “English name, gender, nationality, date of birth”and other information with the permission of theofficialaccepting institution.
3. The undergraduate degree certificate/pre-graduation certificate in person.(Ifit isnot in Chinese or English, Chinese or English translation is required.)
4. Transcript of undergraduate study.(If it is not in Chinese or English, Chinese or English translation is required.)
5. HSK certificate valid for two years.
6. Research Plan (1500 wordsor more)must bewritten in Chinese or English, with realistic contentsand objectives.
7. Letter of recommendation from two professors or associate professors in Chinese or English.
8. Resume in Chinese or English.
9. Certificate of No Criminal Record:The applicantsshall submit the certificate of no criminal record within the validity period issued by the local public security bureau, which shall usually be the certificate within 6 months before the date ofthe application.
10. Copy of Physical Examination Form for Foreigners: The form must bewrittenin English or Chinese. The applicantsshall be examined in strict accordance with the items required in the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. The form without anyone of theitems or the signature and seal of the doctor andthehospital shall be invalid.
