Introduction to Master Program in Hispanic Translation and Interpreting for International Students
Introduction of Hispanic language program
The Hispanic language program of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) was first started in 1952 as the first Hispanic-teaching institution among Chinese universities. Over the past 70 years, the program has cultivated a large number of diplomats and translators, making significant contribution to the cultural exchanges between China and Hispanic-speaking countries.
In 1979, our Hispanic program was the first in China to be authorized to offer master’s degrees in Hispanic language studies and in 1996, it became the first in China to offer doctoral degrees in Hispanic language studies. In 2007, it became a Program with Distinctive Features of the Ministry of Education; and in 2008, a Program with Distinctive Features of Beijing. In 2010, it was recognized as a Beijing municipal key program. In 2015, the program became the first to enroll students in the Master Program in Hispanic Translation and Interpreting. In 2019, it was successively approved as a First-Class Program of Beijing and a First- Prog-Class of the Ministry of Education.
Our program currently hosts 20 faculty members, two thirds of whom have studied translation in their master or doctoral education, making it the most prominent teaching team in Hispanic-Chinese translation.
The Master Program in Hispanic-Chinese Translation and Interpreting provides two research directions: Translation and interpreting, both of which offer specialized translation courses in politics and diplomacy, economics and trade, science and technology, culture, etc. to equip students with solid translation skills oriented to specialized and high-level professional markets.
Our Hispanic program enjoys good social reputation, and offers many internship opportunities for students.
