Introduction of Graduate School of Translation & Interpretation
The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) of Beijing Foreign Studies University is one of the leading institutions in the training of top-notch interpreters and translators in China. It offers courses in conference interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous), translating and translation studies, including 2-year and 3-year MA/MTI and 3-year Ph.D. programs.
GSTI currently hosts 29 faculty members, including 3 professors and 3 associate professors and over 220 graduate students. The School was officially established in 1994, as an evolution of what was known as the UN-sponsored Translator /Interpreter Training Program in China. It has produced over 1700 graduates who are now working for UN organizations, Chinese government offices, mass media, the banking sector, higher education institutions and multinational corporations. Apart from the students it enrolls from China’s mainland, GSTI also hosts students from EU countries, the USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school has extensive academic links with universities in the United States, EU countries, Australia, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The school is a member of CIUTI and one of the 19 universities over the globe cooperating with the UN in its Outreach Program.
