Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), as the party of receiving and accommodating exchange students, in accordance with the student exchange agreements signed with overseas universities or research institutions (hereinafter referred as“home institutions”) will accept application from international students for inter-university exchange programs.
Applicant Qualifications
I. Applicants’home institutions must have student exchange agreements with BFSU, and the agreements must be still in force.
II. Applicants must be full-time degree students registered in the home institution. They should first gain recommendation from the home institution, which will then send the nomination form to BFSU.
III. In consideration of cultural exchange and mutual learning with other countries, applicants should in principle be foreign students without Chinese nationality.
IV. In addition, applicants should also meet the general application requirements and the admission requirements of the applied major. For more information, please refer to our website.
Duration of the program
Students exchange programs usually last for one semester or two semesters (one academic year). Usually, the autumn semester starts from September and the spring semester starts from March.
Application procedures
Step 1: Submit an application to your home institution and gain recommendation and approval of your home institution.

Step 3: Follow the online application procedure offered by the BFSU Overseas Students Affairs Office, complete and submit application in the online system. (Click here to download the application procedure)

Step 4: Wait for the qualification review. If approved, you will receive the admission documents from this university.

The 2025 Spring Semester: October 15 to December 15, 2024
The 2025 Autumn Semester: March 10 to May 30, 2025
Chinese visa
Qualified applicants will receive admission materials from Beijing Foreign Studies University. Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 Form) / Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form) will be processed based on the duration of their intended study and in accordance with the relevant policies of the National Immigration Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. Applicants can download electronic certificates of the JW202 Form or DQ Form from the Study in China website.
Please take all the admission documents to Chinese embassy or consulates in your place of residence to apply for the X visa (student visa).
Accommodation
If the student exchange agreement contains clear terms on accommodation, the terms will be followed.
If there is no stipulation, we will provide necessary assistance for the new students to find a room. The room type is not selectable and will be arranged by the university.
Due to limited numbers of beds, room reservation is not possible for new students’first semester in BFSU. Since the second semester, students can do room reservation online.
Courses and Credits
The recognition of courses and credits will be made in accordance with the student exchange agreements between the two universities and the curriculum of the school where the applicant is studying. After the students finish the exchange study and leave the campus, we will send the transcripts to the home institution.

Selecting other schools’courses
Provisions of the student exchange agreement will be followed. Within two weeks since the new semester begins, depending on the course schedule of their own schools, students can apply for courses from other schools. Students should fill in the "Registration form to select another school’s courses" and ask their school and the school offering the course to sign and give their consent or dissent. In the third week, two copies of the application form should be submitted to the Overseas Students Affairs Office, who will keep a record and notify the students’school and the school offering the course for teaching preparation.
Other issues:
I.Applicants for students exchange programs should first confirm whether their home institutions have signed student exchange agreements with BFSU and whether they themselves have gained nomination.
II.The home institution should recommend qualified nominees according to the exchange agreement signed with BFSU, and send a formal nomination form to Beijing Foreign Studies University. The home institution shall be responsible for the authenticity, accuracy, completeness and validity of the form.
III.Gaining nomination from the home institution does not necessarily translate to the admission by BFSU. We reserve the right to refuse unqualified nominees according to our own judgement.
IV.Due to limited class capacity, applications to some courses may not be successful.
