Master’s Program in China Studies of “ICA Scholars Program” is launched by ICA, organized and implemented by the Institute for International Communication of Chinese Culture, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), aiming at admitting and cultivating overseas scholars who love Chinese culture and hope to understand Chinese culture systematically. During the studying periods, the international students enrolled in the program will participate in intensive research and on-the-spot investigation on relevant issues such as Chinese culture and Chinese traditional thoughts, contemporary development of China, etc. Excellent international students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to get scholarships as a supplement of their tuition fees in China.
Program Features
1. Efforts will be made to strengthen international students’ deep understanding of Chinese culture and society, enrich their professional knowledge and curricula contents, cultivate them with a deeper degree of Chinese culture, through which the professors will tell Chinese stories and spread Chinese voices in a more realistic and vivid way.
2. In terms of curricula, special topics and key points are the most important ones. In combination with the special courses and subject advantages of BFSU, a series of courses related to ancient China and contemporary China for young sinologists will be developed, aiming at cultivating students’ sense of identity with contemporary China.
3. Cultural practice, field investigation and other forms will be taken to make students to feel Chinese culture, to get close to the pulse of the times, to understand the history of China, the contemporary China and the current politics of China.
4. The in-depth communication and integration between international students and Chinese students will be developed, and a brand of campus cultural activities for international students will be established.

Materials Required for Application
1. Application Form for Foreign Students of Beijing Foreign Studies University (automatically generated online).
2. Front Page of the Passport: The applicant shall be submitted with a clear scanned copy of the first page of the ordinary passport in person and at the same time with a validity period later than 1st March, 2023. If the validity period of the current passport does not meet the requirements, please issue a new passport in time. Applicants who cannot obtain a passport before submitting their application due to objective reasons may submit valid certificates or supporting documents containing their “English name, gender, nationality, date of birth” and other information with the permission of the official accepting institution.
3. The undergraduate degree certificate/pre-graduation certificate in person. (If it is not in Chinese or English, Chinese or English translation is required.)
4. Transcript of undergraduate study.(If it is not in Chinese or English, Chinese or English translation is required.)
5. HSK certificate valid for two years.
6. Research Plan (1500 words or more) must be written in Chinese or English, with realistic contents and objectives.
7. Letter of recommendation from two professors or associate professors in Chinese or English.
8. Resume in Chinese or English.
9. Certificate of No Criminal Record: The applicants shall submit the certificate of no criminal record within the validity period issued by the local public security bureau, which shall usually be the certificate within 6 months before the date of the application.
10. Copy of Physical Examination Form for Foreigners: The form must be written in English or Chinese. The applicants shall be examined in strict accordance with the items required in the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. The form without any one of the items or the signature and seal of the doctor and the hospital shall be invalid.
