In order to consolidate the achievement of high level cultural exchanges, to encourage further cooperation between China and the United States and to attract more outstanding American students, Beijing Foreign Studies University is entrusted to undertake the enrollment of “Sino-US Students Scholarship” for undergraduate and graduate programs.
I. Eligibility
1. Applicants must be a citizen of United States, and be in good health.
2. Educational background and age limits:
(1) Bachelor’s programs: holder of a high school diploma or above, under the age of 25;
(2) Master’s programs: holder of a bachelor’s degree or above, under the age of 35;
(3) Doctoral programs: holder of a master’s degree or above, under the age of 40.
II. Language Requirements
If applicants apply to study programs in Chinese, their Chinese language proficiency is at least HSK level 3 at the time of application.Undergraduate program applicants whose Chinese proficiency level does not reach HSK level-4, are required to undergo one-year Chinese preparatory study in a designated college. Applicants for master’s or doctoral degrees, in principle, must acquire the Chinese language proficiency HSK level-4 or higher.

1. Majors in non-Chinese language and literature not allowed, but majors in translation are accepted;

IV. Supporting Categories and Duration
1. Supporting Category
This scholarship supports Undergraduate and Graduate students.
2.Duration
This scholarship supports undergraduate students for 4-5 academic years, master’s students for 2-4 academic years or doctoral students for 4-5 academic years.
V. Scholarship Coverage
This is a full scholarship which covers:
1.Tuition waiver;
2.Accommodation fee: BFSU shall provide accommodation free of charge (normally double rooms). The students under this program may also rent apartments in China, in which case each BA or MA student will be given a subsidy of 700 RMB per month and each doctoral student 1000 RMB per month.
3. Stipend:
Undergraduate students: 2500RMB/month;
Master students: 3000RMB/month;
Doctoral students: 3500RMB/month;
4.Comprehensive medical insurance in China

International travel expenses and other related expenses are NOT included.
VI. Application Materials
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship
The form can be downloaded after the applicant submits the application information online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
2.Copy of Passport Photo Page
3. Copy of Diploma (notarized) /Pre-graduation Certificate
If the original is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation should be attached.
4.Copy of Transcript of Academic Record
If the original is not in Chinese or English, a notarized Chinese or English translation should be attached.
5.A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English.
The content should include reasons for application, education and work experience and personal award and strong points, etc. At least 1500 words for MA applicants and at least 3000 words for doctoral degree applicants.
6.Recommendation letter(s):
Applicants for undergraduate programs must submit one letter of commendation in Chinese or English; applicants for graduate programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors (signature and contact information are mandatory).
7.Language Qualification Certificate:
For Chinese-taught programs: Applicants for bachelor’s degree must submit HSK level 3 certificate or higher, and applicants for master’s degree and doctorate must submit HSK level 4 certificate or higher;

9.Non-criminal Record Report (template can be downloaded on BFSU system)
10.Other supporting documents, like certificate of work or internship, award,
publications(not compulsory)
Students currently studying in Chinese universities should provide:
1. The current visa/residence permit and the latest entry stamp page

3. Atransfer or withdrawal consent issued by the current university
4.Student transcript and a recommendation letter issued by the current university

VIII. Admission and Notification
1. BFSU will review all the application documents;
2. CSC will review eligibility and qualifications of candidates nominated by BFSU, and decide the final list of scholarship winners;
3. BFSU will inform and send the Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to scholarship recipients.
