On April 24, the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Foreign Studies University organized a cultural exchange event at Beijing Gaojing Middle School, bringing together 28 international students from 15 countries, including South Korea, Poland, France, and the United Kingdom. The aim was to foster cross-cultural communication among young people, strengthening friendships, enhancing international students’ cultural experiences in China.
Accompanied by school teachers, the international students arrived at Gaojing Middle School, where they engaged in interactive activities with local students. During the event, Chinese and international students teamed up for a campus reading month presentation, sharing and discussing classic literature, and immersing themselves in the beauty of language and culture. Students from Gaojing Middle School also showcased their impressive tech innovations, including smart robots and drones, and explained their STEM curriculum in detail. Everyone participated in hands-on activities that sparked creativity and highlighted the universal appeal of technological advancement.
The atmosphere was vibrant during the cultural and traditional heritage experiences, featuring captivating performances of traditional Chinese arts such as martial arts and diabolo juggling. International students took the stage to share poetry and demonstrate Chinese kung fu, while engaging in hands-on crafts like traditional printmaking and making herbal sachets, allowing them to fully appreciate the depth of Chinese culture. Both Chinese and international students gathered to share their thoughts on cultural differences and learning experiences, building lasting friendships along the way.
As the event wrapped up, students and teachers exchanged gifts and took group photos to commemorate the occasion. This initiative is an important step by Beijing Foreign Studies University to help international students gain practical insights into China’s culture and education system, while deepening their understanding of local customs.
