The 2025 International Forum on Poverty Reduction Governance and Global Development was held in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, China on March 29-30. The forum was co-hosted by the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, the China International Communications Group, and the China Public Relations Association, with Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) acting as a supporting organizer. Attendees included Irina Bokova, Honorary Dean of BFSU’s School of International Organizations and Honorary Director of BFSU’s Centre for the Studies of the UN and International Organizations, as well as former Director-General of UNESCO; Jia Dezhong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of BFSU; and around 300 participants from 34 countries and international organizations such as the UN, including diplomats, government officials, and scholars.

International student representatives from BFSU, hailing from countries such as Canada, Russia, Cameroon, Mongolia, France, South Korea, Belarus, and the Republic of the Congo, participated in the forum. They also traveled to border regions including Lushui, Fugong, and Gongshan for a national conditions education and practice program themed “Understanding Contemporary China”. Through hands-on engagement in rural revitalization, ethnic unity, and sustainable development initiatives, the students deepened their comprehension of Chinese modernization. Their experiences provided rich, real-world case studies for global youth to enhance their international understanding and global competence.
