At 7PM on December 23, 2017, the “SICA NIGHT” gala hosted by the Overseas Students Affairs Office of the Beijing Foreign Studies University and undertaken by the Students’ International Communication Association (SICA) ofour universitywas kicked off in our thousand-people auditorium. Professor Ke Jing, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, attended this gala.
It takes nearly 3 months from the planning to the staging of this gala, with the participation of nearly 30 international students from more than 10 countries and all members of the “SICA” student union.
Through the overtime work and repeated rehearsals of all the students and staff members, and the careful checking and reviews of responsible staff of the Overseas Students Affairs Office and faculty supervisors, a perfectly stunning international audio and visual feast was finally presented to the whole university at this occasion when we ring out the old year and ring in the new year.
With various performances such as solo singing, duet singing, band performance, dancing, crosstalk, and playing of musical instruments, the gala was compact and well organized with so many eye-catching and colorful shows. During the two-and-half-hour performance, the thousand-people auditorium was packed, as Chinese and foreign students on the stage presented speaking, imitating, teasing, singing and dancing, etc. and the audiences were enthusiastic and interactive. Wonderful performances pushed the atmosphere to a climax again and again, bringing the audiences to a colorful fantasy world.
Since its first session in 2009 as an initial attempt, the “SICA NIGHT” gala for international students has gradually turned mature, become a signature campus activity and annual cultural festival to demonstrate our university’s teaching achievements of international students as well as the style of our Chinese and foreign students, and witnessed the constantly growing and expanding development of internationalized teaching and education of the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
The gala was a great success. In the candle light celebrating the 10th anniversary of the establishment of SICA, the curtain fell slowly, and the audiences were reluctant to leave. The excellent performance and beautiful songs seemed to echo throughout the venue. Together, Chinese and foreign students, as well as performers and audiences, created this shining night. SICA NIGHT – look forward to seeing you again next year!
