In 1990, Beijing Foreign Studies University set up a Computer Center and initiated computer teaching for both its postgraduate and undergraduate students. In 2009, the Department of Computer Science was established to admit undergraduates of Computer Science and Technology major, marking an important step in building up the university's multi-disciplinary scheme of compound talents cultivation. In 2018, the Department of Computer Science was renamed the School of Information Science and Technology, further solidifying the multi-disciplinary scheme to provide support for compound talents; It is currently the only engineering school at BFSU. In 2022, the school started the "Big Data Management and Application" program for postgraduate students; The school’s Computer Science and Technology major was selected as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point in 2021.
Since its establishment, the School of Information Science and Technology has adhered to BFSU’ s rigorous and pragmatic style as well as its distinctive and innovative education idea. It is dedicated to cultivating compound talents and fostering high-level computer professionals with international perspectives.
