[About BFSU]

Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, is located at No.2 and No.19 Xisanhuan Beilu, Haidian District, Beijing (zip code 100089). Its official website ishttp://www.bfsu.edu.cn.BFSU is a university under the direct leadership of the Chinese Ministry of Education. The university is listed under China’s Project 211 (Chinese government’s new endeavor aimed at strengthening about 100 institutions of higher education and key disciplinary areas as a national priority for the 21st century), Project 985 Innovation Platform (a constructive project for founding world-class universities in the 21st century conducted by the government of China) and theDouble First-Class Initiative (program to develop a number of world-class universities and disciplines)

BFSU enrolls international students into full-time degree programs and non-degree programs. Degree programs include bachelor’s programs, master’s programs and PhD programs, while non-degree programs include preparatory programs and visiting student programs. BFSUgrants BFSU diplomas to the students who meet the requirements for graduation by the designated deadline, and degree certificates to those who meet the requirements of the degree programs. It also issues certificates for non-degree program students who complete their programs by the designated deadline.

BFSU enrolls both liberal arts students and science students from all over the world.

[Semesters]

At Beijing Foreign Studies University, each academic year is divided into spring and autumn semesters. Autumn semester often starts in September and ends in January next year, while spring semester usually lasts from February till July. Exact starting and finishing dates of each semester are subject to BFSU academic calendar.

[Program Introduction]

I. Degree Programs

1. Bachelor’s programs

Duration: 4 years. Students will be awarded diplomas upon successful completion of required courses, the thesis, and the oral defense of the thesis. Those who fulfil the requirements for bachelor’s degree will also be awarded a degree certificate.

2. Master’s programs

Duration: 2 or 3 years, depending on the major. Master’s diploma and degree certificate will be awarded upon completion of credits and completion of all required courses for training and degree application.

3. PhD programs

Duration: 4 years. Doctor’s diploma and degree certificate will be awarded upon completion of credits and completion of all required courses for training and degree application.

II. Non-degree Programs

1. Preparatory programs

Duration: 0.5-1 year. Students can be referred to a relevant BFSU bachelor’s program if they perform well at school, meet academic qualification requirements and achieve excellent exams results.

2. Programs for General Visiting Students

Duration: 0.5-1 year. Can be extended by semester based on student’ application and approval after comprehensive review. Students will be granted a BFSU course-completion certificate if they have completed all the courses in Chinese language study or in other majors as required and passed the exams within their study duration.

3. Programs for Senior Visiting Students

Duration: 0.5-1 year. Appropriate extension of study can be applied under specific circumstances. Students will be granted a BFSU course-completion certificate if they have completed courses in Chinese language study or in other majors as required and passed the exams within their study duration.

4. Program for short-term visiting students (during winter and summer vacations)

Duration: ranging from 1-8 weeks. A BFSU study certificate will be issued upon the completion of program arrangements.

[Application Qualifications]

Applicants should:

1. have graduated from high school, and be 18 years old or above, generally no more than 50 years old;

2. NOT have Chinese nationality under theNationality Law of the People’s Republic of Chinaand hold a valid private ordinary passport;

3. be subject to the following additional regulations of BFSU based onLetter No.12 [2020] of the Ministry of Educationif they are applying for bachelor’s programs:

1) according to theNationality Law of the People’s Republic of China, a person whose parent(s) is/are Chinese national(s) and has/have settled abroad, and who has acquired foreign nationality at birth shall not have Chinese nationality. These students, when applying for BFSU bachelor’s programs, should have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for at least 4 years, and should have stayed in foreign country for 2 years in the past 4 years as of April 30, 2024 (9 months in a year will be counted as one year and calculation of the duration of stay will be based on the border entry and exit stamps);

2) students who were residents in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan region before immigrating to a foreign country should be subject to the above regulations as well;

4. be physically and mentally healthy; meet the physical examination requirements for Chinese Visa and Residence Permit in China as well as the physical examination requirements for BFSU programs so as to ensure their study and life in China;

5. have no record of discipline violation, of public security punishment or of criminal conduct; be friendly to China and behave well; comply with Chinese laws and university regulations, and respect Chinese customs.

[Application & Enrollment Procedure]

. Application

BFSU adopts an online application procedure. Applicants can register and log into the BFSU International Student Service System for application.

Note:

1. BFSU International Student Service System website is https://study.bfsu.edu.cn;

2. The application system is accessible from October 15 to December 15, 2023, and from April 10 to June 15, 2024; students should apply in Chinese or English;

3. Applicants must fill in real, accurate, complete and valid information on the system. The applicant should bear all consequences and responsibilities should there be any wrong, missing, false or invalid information that affects the admission and enrollment;

4. In addition to filling out the online information, applicants should also upload required documentation as attachments. The attachments shall be color scanned copies, and the originals shall be kept for verification. Please click here for the list of required documents;

. Documentation review and examination/assessment

BFSU will review the application documents and organize entrance exams or assessments. Students will be selected based on comprehensive document review and evaluation results.

During the period of review, applicants can log into the BFSU International Student Service System for application updates, progress and relevant notices.

. Admission

Applicants who pass the documentation review and the exams/assessments will be admitted and issued the Admission Notice and other related materials by BFSU. Visa Application for Study in China Form (JW201/202 Form) / Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form) will be processed based on the duration of their intended study and in accordance with the relevant policies of the National Immigration Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. Applicants can download electronic certificates of the JW201/202 Form or DQ Form from the Study in China website. It takes 4-5 weeks from the completion of the admission process to the delivery of the relevant materials.

IV. Second review

BFSU will conduct a second review on application documents after admission, and is entitled to withdraw its decision of admission and disqualify the applicant for admission in case of any violation.

Ⅴ. Registration

New students should register within the time specified in the Admission Letter. Anyone who misses the registration without specifying legitimate reasons will be considered as dropout automatically.

Please bring with you the Admission Notice, the copy of “Visa Application for Study in China” Form (JW201/202 Form), or Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form), and five 2-inch certificate photos with white background for on-campus registration in person. If you have had a physical examination at your home country, please also provide the original medical examination records.

. Examination and Re-examination of Admission Qualifications

BFSU will examine and re-examine students’ admission qualifications upon and after the registration. If during the examinations, the student’s Admission Notice, candidate information and other certifying materials are found to be inconsistent with the actual information, or if fraud, malpractice and other similar circumstances exist, the student will be determined as unqualified and his/her admission or student status will be cancelled.

[Visa]

Please apply for an X1 or X2 Visa (for study) at Chinese Embassy/Consulate with the BFSU Admission Notice, the “Visa Application for Study in China” Form (JW202/201 Form) or Short-Term International Student’s Information Form (DQ Form) and other materials before entry into China. For detailed visa application materials and procedures, please contact the Chinese Embassy/Consulate for the specific requirements of the documents. The decision made by the Chinese Embassy (consulate) to issue or refuse the visa shall be final.

[Medical Insurance]

International students should purchase the comprehensive insurance designated by BFSU. Those who do not purchase the insurance as required will not be registered.

The insurance can be purchased before or on the day of registration. Insurance premium reference: 400 Yuan per person for six months; 800 Yuan per person for a year.

[Tuition Fees]

Please click here for tuition fees required for each major. Where tuition fees for short-term programs and newly established majors are not found in Appendix 2, please refer to the program guide of these majors.

Fees and refunds are all denominated in RMB.

Paying of the application fee is a necessary step for applying to the university, and it should be completed online after submitting your information. The application fee is not refundable. Tuition fees, in principle, should be paid in one lump sum on the basis of the academic year for students in degree programs, and semester for non-degree students. All tuition fees should be fully paid within the prescribed period. Students who fail to pay tuition fees in full and on time will not be registered.

Students who pay by bank transfer should transfer the money to the designated account and keep the proof of payment in case of verification. In the case of dropout and school transfer, refunds (if any) shall be implemented in accordance with theProvisional Regulation on Charges for International Students at Beijing Foreign Studies University.

[Accommodation]

International students who have been officially admitted to BFSU are eligible to apply for accommodation in our university’s international student dormitories. Unless explicitly specified that a single room is required, a room with two beds will be pre-reserved for international students who are entitled to free accommodation according to government regulations or bilateral agreements. For all other students, it is necessary to log in to BFSU’s International Student Service system (booking website:http://study.bfsu.edu.cn), and use the dormitory reservation module to book rooms for the upcoming semester within the designated timeframe. International students must adhere to registration schedule and check in at the specified time once they have their rooms booked or reserved online. Please note that rooms will not be held for students if they fail to register on time.

Students who choose to reside off-campus during their study should arrange their own accommodation in advance. Those living in a residential community should, within 24 hours of check-in, go to the nearest police station for the issuance of theAccommodation Registration Formaccompanied by the property owner. For students residing off-campus, it is essential to possess a valid temporary Accommodation Registration Certificate in order to complete their enrollment and visa procedures.
