China Studies Program Online Pre-doctoral Training Program in 2022 Seminar on “the Explanation of Chinese Civilization from History and Its World Significance” Enrollment Guide

I. Introduction

The “China Studies Program ” is among a series of projects strongly supported by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of China. And there are more than 700 outstanding young sinologists trained through this program since 2013. Based on the training experience of “China Studies Program”, the Pre-doctoral Training Program is a short-term course for young foreign scholars with certain academic potential and interested in Sinology and Chinese Studies, which aims to provide overseas young people who are going to study for a doctoral degree in “China Studies Program” with the knowledge of language, culture, academy and so on. AndBeijing Foreign Studies University is one of the key universities in China designated bytheCenter for Language Education and Cooperationof Chinato participate inthisprogram.

The theme of this seminar in 2022is“the Explanation ofChinese Civilization from History andItsWorld Significance”.It is held by the Institute for International Communication of Chinese Culture, Beijing Foreign Studies University. The purpose of theInstituteis to explore the world significance of Chinese culture,through which the Institute aims topromotethecultural dialogue and mutual learning of civilizationsamong nations,furthershowcasing Chinesespiritsand values.With asolid research foundation, abundant academic resources and fruitful scientific research achievements,the Institute couldprovidea strongacademic support for thesuccess of this program.

II. Program Characteristics

The program is designed to show the world significance of Chinese culture and toestablishthe dialogue between Chinese culture and world culturesfrom varieddimensions. The course coversdifferent kinds of academic fields includingphilosophy, society, history, culture and diplomacy, which canenablestudentsto gaina relatively systematic understanding ofChinese culture about Chinesereligious philosophy, Confucianism,Chinesecultural heritage,Chineseliterature and art,Chinesehistorical relics, translation and introduction ofChineseclassics,exchanges between China and the rest of the world, etc.

III. Scholar Team

The scholar team involves many well-known experts and scholars from different fields. They are Professor Zhang Xiping, President of International Institute of Chinese Studies, an expert in overseas sinology research field; Professor Roger T. Ames, President of International Confucian Association, an expert in the field of comparative philosophy between China and the West; Professor Dave Wang, Director ofLaurelton Branch of Queen’s Library in New York, USA, an expert in the field of international dissemination of Chinese culture; Professor Wu Bin, former President of Shenyang Palace Museum, an expert in the field of history of Sino-foreign cultural exchanges; Professor Ren Dayuan, Executive Vice President of Chinese Yan Huang Culture Research Association, an expert in the field of Chinese intellectual history, etc.

VII. Application requirements

(I)Enrollment Candidates:

1. Non-Chinese citizen;

2. In principle, applicants shall be under the age of 40;

3. people who obtained the Master’s degree, or candidates who are studying for the Master’s/Doctoral degree.

4. Applicants obtained HSK 5 level or above, and PHD applicants currently studying in a university obtained HSK 3 level or above.

(IV)Graduation Requirements

1. Attendance rate above 90%;

2. Submitting a 3000-word final report within two weeks after the end of the course;

(V) Certificate Granting

1. A certificatewill be awarded uponacompletion of the coursesandthepassingofthe assessment;

2. Outstanding students will obtain the recommendation letter of experts of China Studies Program.
